The company today
Recently, TA2 has gone through a period of transition. The company was very successful, but because Chris was so busy with the day-to-day running of the business, he felt that it lacked real focus. Windows of opportunity were beginning to open up for TA2, but Chris was finding it increasingly difficult to prioritise the ones which would bring the most return. He really believed that what the business needed was a fresh pair of eyes...
Life coaching
Chris regularly attends industry and local business networking events, where he often comes across life coaches. Initially, he considered the role of the life coach to be probing in nature, and likely to make people reveal things about their personalities that they would probably prefer to keep to themselves. When it came to his own life and to his business, Chris really believed that there was nothing a life coach could tell him that he wouldn't already know.
Working with LifeGoal
After meeting Wendy at Life Goal at one of the various networking events, Chris decided to take up one of her 30-minute free sessions, designed to make people see 'what coaching was all about'. Chris commented:
"All my preconceptions were so wrong. Life coaching is not probing in any way, it is about sorting the wheat from the chaff, and unless someone has been to a life coach, then they really wouldn't know that.
"Sometimes, in life, it is difficult to step out and look around, particularly in the events industry where pressure is steep. We juggle long hours and - often - jet lag with the need to continue driving creativity for our clients; it's hard to find time for yourself. Wendy really helped me to reflect on my life; she guided me as to how I should look at both personal and business aspects. She wasn't dictatorial in approach; instead she left the decisions to me - pointing me in the right direction. What the life coaching seemed to do was to put a spotlight on relevant issues, and help me to make the decisions I needed to."
Results
Working with Wendy, Chris was able to look at the areas of his business he was spending too much time on and to begin to shift his focus to address greater priorities. He believes that the coaching process has helped him to see the overall business proposition more clearly, and to focus. He added: "Coaching has really benefited my business and my well being, both from a profitability and physical perspective. I feel that today, I am getting so much more out of TA2. I do the work that I enjoy more, and I have also gained back valuable time by learning to prioritise on what matters.
"Even when you work for yourself, you don't always get job satisfaction. Today, I feel I am able to handle employees better, and I also believe the way in which I work with suppliers has improved. I am clearer in my approach and decisions come a lot easier - this I put entirely down to the focus that Wendy offered me.
Wendy at LifeGoal added: "From experience, I certainly believe that men find it more difficult to put themselves in a position where they need to ask for help. And, when they do they feel vulnerable about the information they give out.
"Life coaching is designed to address the areas in your life or business that you feel uncomfortable with and to help you to find the answers. Its purpose is to help clients to understand the way they think, and to turn negative thinking into positive."
"Life coaching has no boundaries - sessions can be run over the phone or via Skype, where clients can benefit from being in the comfort of their own home."
