Time & Leisure Magazine
Our holiday gives us a chance to relax and spend time with loved ones, and it gives us something to look forward to. But what can you do beforehand to ensure that you get the most out of your holiday, both in the lead up to it and whilst you are away.
If, like me, you generally select and organise the holiday, it is worth taking a few moments to ponder the question; what would make a great holiday? Spending valuable time with your loved ones without the usual distractions can sometimes be problematic.
Making the most of your holiday: Choosing your destination is important to ensure harmony. It is also important to meet your needs as well as your other travelling companions. How do you want to spend your time? What are you aiming for, relaxation, lots of activity or a mix of both? Are you stuck in a rut? Consider trying an alternative holiday location, or different type of resort.
Preparation: With all those loose ends to tie up, the lead up to the holiday can often be stressful. Usually it is the easiest most obvious things that we overlook, and if we fail to plan we plan to fail, which means we end up running around at the last minute trying to sort everything out. Take some time to think about what options you have, who can help you, and what you are prepared to do in advance. By focusing and prioritising what needs to be done, and preparing a time phased checklist releases the mind and acts as an aide-memoire.
Enjoy the journey leading up to your holiday, as well as the holiday itself. Bon Voyage!
